Marquise Goodwin

Marquise Goodwin scored his first touchdown of the season Sunday afternoon against the Giants. But the thrill of an 83-yard touchdown reception could not get the 49ers' wide receiver over events from that morning.

At 4 a.m. Sunday, Goodwin's wife, Morgan, prematurely delivered a baby boy. The child died due to complications.

So when Goodwin, 26, put up six points just hours after the sad news, he was overtaken by emotion. Goodwin crossed himself before falling over in the end zone.

Goodwin also shared an emotional Instagram post after the game:

Goodwin, who was one of three players to kneel during the national anthem Sunday in Santa Clara, met his wife, Morgan, while they were both track stars at University of Texas. Goodwin qualified for the 2012 Summer Olympics and finished tenth in the long jump.

Goodwin is in his fifth season, and through ten games, he already has a career-high 500 receiving yards for the season. The 49ers earned their first win of 2017 on Sunday, defeating the Giants, 31-21.
