Dabo Swinney, Nick Saban

Ah, the Gatorade bath. It's one of sports' great modern traditions. When the relief of a championship finally kicks in, teams sneak up on the coach and drench him in a sugary energy drink.

On Monday night, one man will get a Gatorade shower (or Powerade, we don't play favorites). Either Nick Saban or Dabo Swinney will leave Tampa with a stained, unwearable shirt. Both have won bowl games before. And with that as a sample size, we know one man loves getting doused in electrolytes and one does not. Let's take a look at the film:

Nick Saban wins a lot. He is 205-60-1 all-time, 114-18 at Alabama and has won 11 bowl or College Fooball Playoff games, including five national championships. He expects to get rained on at the end of the year. Perhaps that is why he is mostly unenthused by past Gatorade baths.

In January 2010, Saban's first Alabama championship team drilled him in the head with the cooler. Saban was literally a defenseless receiver, taking it to the skull. But still, you just won a national championship. Lighten up.

Nick Saban

Saban just kind of scoffed at his players in 2013 after a blowout of Notre Dame. And they used red Gatorade, so they probably didn't even screw up the shirt that much.

Last year, wearing a jacket, Saban took another red drink, may have dropped an expletive, didn't really flinch and then for some reason, took hold of a football.

We'll give Saban this. In 2012, he did express some excitement taking the formula well. He had a little extra pep in his step after beating his former school, LSU. Saban even tried to use the drink as a hair product. "I loved it," he said.

On the other side, Clemson's Dabo Swinney has never won a national championship game. He lost to Saban one year ago. But he has won six bowl games with the Tigers and if Clemson pulls it out Monday, history suggests Swinney will go wild for a colorful shower.

In 2009, Swinney got an orange bath for making the ACC Championship Game. He took the ice in stride.

A month later, at the Music City Bowl, Swinney got a boost of energy from a Gatorade shower.

In the 2014 Orange Bowl, Swinney took the hit and then jumped into his players' arms.

Even when taking a shower with a white shirt at the 2014 Russell Athletic Bowl, during a 40-6 drubbing of Oklahoma, Swinney got an extra pep in his step while drenched.

Long story short, if you are a fan of coaches getting really excited to take a Gatorade bath, pull for Clemson. If you like when coaches get really grumpy and annoyed at sugary sports drinks staining their khakis, root for Alabama.
