Philadelphia Sixers' No. 1 overall pick Ben Simmons has wasted no time demonstrating his unselfishness on the hardwood, as his bevy of highlight-reel passes led to a first-team NBA Summer League selection earlier in July.
Now the 20-year-old is proving that he knows how to share off the floor as well.
Fresh off signing a rookie contract estimated to bring him approximately five million dollars in 2016-17, Simmons recently showed that he won't be the type to hog it all to himself.
An anonymous basketball fan with the YouTube account "Hopein8er" revealed on Friday that after he and his younger brother encountered Simmons at a shoe store, the newly acquired Sixer asked the youngster if he liked any specific sneakers. Then he bought a pair for the admiring fan on the spot.
The older brother documented the whole experience on YouTube, although the actual in-store footage starts roughly 6:28 into the video:
Both as an athlete and a philanthropist, it's been flying colors for Simmons in his brief Philadelphia tenure. But the real tests are yet to come. Joined by the anticipated NBA debuts of Joel Embiid and Dario Saric, Simmons will work to turn around a 76ers franchise that holds a 47-199 record over the past three seasons, the league's worst mark in that stretch.
The 2016-17 Sixers will begin their preseason with an Oct. 21 showdown against the Miami Heat.
